What an honor to facilitate a conversation with Patrick Filbert of Postindustrial Futures, Georgia Silvera Seamans of Local Nature Lab, Kathleen Liebowitz of Toward Zero Waste, and Megan Sullivan of Mass Energize. The topic was "Think Globally, Act Locally: Community Organizing on Climate & Conservation."
We've heard this adage for years -- Think Globally, Act Locally. But it's more important as we witness the rollbacks of environmental protections at the federal level. Hear from sustainability and environmental experts from across the country and learn about how you can make a positive difference in your community.
Local action is also a great way to reduce your own eco-anxiety and you work for sustainability in your neighborhood. This video is a perfect way to get in your Earth Day spirit a part of our Resilient Leadership Series.
This discussion includes:
compelling stories of how these sustainability leaders got involved in their communities
advice on how to make a difference locally and get involved
stories about why progress at the local level can give you hope
how a daily practice of sustainability (a #onegreenthing) can help you in your own life
the biggest impacts you can make to support the environment at home and in your community
You can view the full conversation here or listen in.
We discussed the path these inspiring eco-heroes took on their journey into environmental actin and local organizing. Then we pivoted to understanding how to get involved locally and the impact community action has in the larger world of conservation. We then shared our advice to young people, who are especially worried about finding careers in sustainability given all the changes we've experienced in 2025.
The bottom line: don't give up. We need you. Community connection and compassion will get us through.
